TEST RESULTS FOR UV OUTPUT:
Below are readings of relative UVA+B output for an ordinary 125W MV lamp (Sylvania brand) and the Iwasaki H125 Clear 125W MV lamp.
The measurment instrument is a highly accurate
Solarmeter 5.0 which measures combined uvA & uvB with readings in mW / cm². Readings were taken at a standard distance from each lamp and the lamps were driven from the same choke (Parmar 125W) @ 230V, with and without a 10uF capacitor fitted across the choke input, on UK mains supply.
Comparisons: (New Lamps - 5hr burn-in)
Sylvania 125 without cap - 1.9
Iwasaki Clear without cap - 2.9
Sylvania 125 with cap - 2.1
Iwasaki Clear with cap - 3.1
SOME COMPARISONS WITH OLD LAMPS
(hours of use of these lamps not known, but average useage probably in excess of 1 season)
Old Lamp - Sylvania 125 - 1.3
Old Lamp - Philips 125 - 1.5
Old Lamp GE 125 - 1.2
Old Lamp Venture 125 - 1.8
As I get time I will publish UV output results for other size MV lamps and also Actinics and blacks.
Please be careful of making comparisons though between dissimilar lamp or tube types.
A spot reading at the same comparison distance for a 40W Actinic tube is 1.0 mW/cm². Obviously, this should not be compared to the MV lamp readings above, but comparisons with other wattage Actinics or with Black tubes of similar characteristics may be useful. [Paul Batty]
