ADVISORY NOTE: On 6th May this year, G.E. Lighting announced the discontinuation of Mercury Vapour Lamps with the B23, or 3-pin BC cap. About a week later, Osram also discontinued this cap. Philips lighting discontinued the 3-pin BC cap in 2001. To our knowledge, there is no manufacturer now continuing to produce M.V. lamps with the 3-BC fitting, with the possible exeption of Venture Lighting, who are not currently producing them (due to manufacturing problems), but may produce them in the future. This will affect the supply of 125W & 80W 3-pin BC MV Lamps. Users of these lamps are therefore advised to immediately purchase a supply of lamps with 3-BC fitting, should they find anyone with stock, or take steps to convert equipment to ES fitting (E27) which for the forseeable short-term future, will continue to be available. Due to the number of 125W MV lamps in use, it is unlikely that ES fitting Mercury Vapour lamps will be discontinued before at least 2010, or more likely 2015, so at the moment, the problem only exists for 3-pin BC fitting lamps. Replacement 3-pin BC lampholders will continue to be available for the next few years at least. Back to Moth Traps etc.
